Although it might not seem like a lot is going on here, this is a very casual sight in Southeast Asia. A large, wild, and naturally tender animal being led throughout villages where people reside. Right in front of my homestay. Maybe to flaunt a sense of ownership, maybe to make a few bucks to let the kids pet. Poking the animal into control, manipulating him or her. Chained. Not all intentions are the same. It all just makes me sad to think about how this is reality. Did you know elephants have the same reaction to humans as humans do when we see dogs? They think we’re cute..at least until we push their limits. Imagine how confused and depressed these animals are. We need to create something bigger than ourselves, and reconstruct a mindframe that acknowledges how important these animals are. All of them. They can feel pain. Violence and manipulation are beyond what is necessary to simply live.
